Hey there fellow Earthling,
I'm Optimistically Green. I just moved to Chicago at the beginning of April, and I figured "what better way to get acquainted with this beautiful city than to share positivity, environmentalism, and art!?" So I created this enormous chalkboard filled with some of my favorite quotes on environmentalism and individual action; practical tips on how to take action to be good to the planet and yourself; and some illustrations because I love making pretty things.
Find your purpose, and use it for good.
My life long quest has been to save the planet. My methods for going about this have changed throughout my life, as I developed new skills and interests, but the ultimate goal has always been the same.
I want everyone to know that they can make a positive impact using their skills and interests, no matter what they are. I used to have concerns that perhaps I should be studying alternative energies and other more practical, scientific ways of helping the environment. But I was not interested in these things, and therefore, not very good at them. I love making pretty things, I love spending my time creating art in all its forms. This may not sound like the ideal skill for saving the planet, but when combined with my fellow earthlings' passions and talents, my skills join up with their skills to create change and joy.
I have been following along with Story of Stuff's bootcamp on this subject, and it is great!
Here I am jumping for joy that I completed this project before the official Earth Day - April 22, 2016.
To provide some scale about how big this board is, in comparison to the artist.
Hi Chicago, I'm new here!
I wanted to make this board have lots of practical actions people could take, along with thought provoking quotes and images. Since this is my first art piece as a Chicagoan, I wanted to include some pieces of local pride. This includes the flag of Chicago, and a few tips about how to take positive action on a local level. I believe that actions close to home often have the biggest impact on the environment, community, and one's overall sense of well-being. I love how much pride this city has, and with good reason - it's a wonderful city full of incredible people, small businesses, farms, organizations, and more!
Thank you for checking out my chalk art! I hope you have a wonderful Earth Day, celebrating the thing that we ALL have in common, our home, planet Earth. I hope you learned something and/or got some inspiration from my artwork. Please let me know if you have any questions about my environmental tips.
Also, I just moved to Chicago and I am trying to launch my career as a freelance designer, artist and more. Use the contact form below if you have a project you might be interested in working with me on.
I am so thrilled that people and organizations I love have shared my post!
I'd love to hear from you!
This chalkboard can be found at 600 West Chicago Ave in Chicago, Illinois. It is located next to Snarf's sandwich shop. Feel free to check it out, take pictures, pose with it, I would love it if you could tag me on instagram!
